Oh, but they did go to war. But not an honorable one, it was a coward's war, where men shot men, women, and children alike, not caring who they were or what their age was. Not caring who lived or died. They barged into their houses, shops, bars, and clubs, and shot down almost each and every man and women they thought were powerful enough to be a threat. The Italian mafia that had had control of Italy and now Chicago disappeared. And it seemed like they were never coming back Until now.

“Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia. (…) You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you’ll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.” looking for alaska, john green.

before:
She could get anything she wanted only with a bat of her lashes, the ones framing the big blue eyes and the candid smile in her rosy lips, the blond hair, like a halo around her hair, would made you question even your oldest ethics. Sofia Rossi had always been like that; since she was a child, she took every opportunity to do as it pleased her, and the fact she was the only girl among the Rossi’s only improved to make her want to be treated like the princess she was. But everything she got, and yet, she wasn’t satisfied. Didn’t matter how many languages she spoke at the age of eight, or how easily she could throw knives and break into any system at twelve, it was never enough to change her father’s mind and give her the only thing she wanted and couldn’t get: Stop being spared, and be part of the family business. The lack of interest coming from the Rossi’s patriarch only fueled the will inside of her; many nights were lost training, taking every opportunity to improve, to show her father she was really worth it. She was a perfect soldier even before she had her first kiss, but her father still wanted to keep his princess locked in her tower.
during:
They were always in a rush, Matteo, her father, and even Nic, they were never around; anyone was. Sofia couldn’t help but feel even more left out, more than she’d ever felt in the whole eighteen years of her life. They ignored, again, her intentions to help, and the frustration of not being able to do what she wanted grew stronger inside of her. As alone as she was, Sofia waited every single night for her mother and younger brother to fall asleep, and then, follow her father into the night, gathering her own information, making her own plans. Once for all she had decided to finally prove they needed her, and she would be delighted when the realization of that fact hit them. But it all changed when she stepped in a pool of blood, staining the hardwood floor of their living room, the stark red dancing in her mind, the metallic taste in her tongue numbing her sense, fooling her, keeping her away from the truth. She could’ve been there, she could’ve protected them, but Sofia was too absorbed to even phantom about it. In that night, she cried until she had no more tears to be shed, holding Cristian’s body and squeezing her mother’s hand, waiting for a reply that would never come.
after:
Everything seemed petty for her, Sofia spent too many sleepless nights thinking about the last time she had seen both, her mother and younger brother, alive; and yet, she couldn’t help but come up with a different plan every time, with a possibility of having them with her in that moment. But the reasonable part of her mind speaks loudly, and the fact she’d be probably dead too is the last thought that crosses her mind every night before she closes her eyes. They didn’t ignore her, after all, not after watching her lose the softness she had all over her being and being replaced by the professionalism and coldness that only comes with price. The only fuel she got now was the idea of having the crown all to herself now, the fights, the lack of interest, nothing looked more appropriate than the environment she was emerged in. Sofia was the perfect soldier before she had her first kiss, but now she had all reason to fight that battle.
